New Character! Miss Anna Jarvis, the
founder of Mother's Day.
She appeared this spring in 3 venues:
Wheeling, WV on April 12
Charleston, WV on April 20
Grafton, WV on May 2.
The Charleston show was taped and aired
on May 10 and 11 on various commercial tv
stations around the state.
Miss Anna Jarvis's photo was taken by
Frances B. Johnston c. 1900, when
Miss Jarvis was in Washington, DC, to
speak to legislators about making
Mother's Day a nationally recognized
holiday. No one knew Frances had
taken this photo of Anna until I
discovered it within Frances's archives
at the Library of Congress. Both ladies
are from Grafton, WV, and born the
same year: 1864.
