Mountain Top Removal
Recently, over a dozen writers participated in a Mountain Top Removal Writers Tour. I attended the
events and during a trip to Kayford Mountain in West Virginia I took some photographs of the MTR
process and resulting moonscape. The name for the devastation to the landscape--Mountain Top
Removal--doesn't accurately describe what is done. It isn't just the top of the mountain that's removed--
it's the entire mountain, leaving a deep, crater-like depression in the earth. See for yourself.
